The FBI alleges that California State Sen. Ron Calderon accepted bribes from Michael Drobot, the former owner of Pacific Hospital of Long Beach, in exchange for his help in delaying legislation that would repeal a state statute that allowed hospitals to bill for the full cost of implants used in spinal fusion surgeries. A sealed affidavit obtained by the Al Jazeera cable television network also implicates Ron Calderon's brother, former State Assemblyman Tom Calderon, in the scheme. A full report![]()
